Permissions and Notifications

Why permissions are requested and how to change your choices.

Published · Version 0.6 · Effective 23 October 2026 · Commpair (Pty) Ltd

Choose permissions by feature

You can review permissions in Settings → Permissions and health and in your phone’s system settings. The operating system controls the actual permission; a screen explaining it is not consent.

  • Apple Health: read authorised activity and sleep for fitness tracking and eligible event scoring.
  • Camera and photos: take or choose images for your profile and social content.
  • Location: find nearby games and support location-based event features when requested.
  • Notifications: receive messages, invitations, social updates, event progress and results according to your preferences.
  • Calendar access, when offered: add the event you choose to your calendar.

Notification choices

New beta signups initially select the optional 19:00 sync reminder, while Show names and Show positions and Pool progress start off. Existing accounts retain saved choices; accounts without saved preview choices can have older defaults, so review Settings → Notifications → Lock screen privacy. Phone notification permission is a separate choice. Turning off Show names also hides positions and Pool progress in push previews.

Eligible active Competition and Pool participants may receive at most one ordinary daily sync reminder around 19:00 South African Standard Time (SAST). Start, finish, final-day and result alerts are separate. The daily reminder includes a provisional position only when the relevant preview choices were explicitly enabled and current Health consent and verified recent activity support it; otherwise it stays generic.

Depending on your preferences, other alerts can show person and event names, final positions or Pool participation status. These summaries may be derived from synced Health data and can appear on your lock screen. Message text, activity totals, sleep details and wallet amounts are not included in push alerts; open ASTA to view them. Alerts include identifiers that open the relevant screen. The beta uses activity and service notifications, not marketing notifications. Network conditions and operating-system scheduling can prevent or delay delivery. Reminders do not change event end times or sync deadlines.

Decline, revoke or disconnect

You may decline optional permissions and change them later. Features that require a permission may become unavailable or incomplete. Where iOS requires permission changes in system settings, ASTA opens those controls.

Turning off a permission stops future access governed by that permission. It does not erase content you previously uploaded; use the data-rights controls for that request.
