COMPETITIONS

COMPETE ON
YOUR ACTIVITY.

Compare your walking, running, cycling or swimming with other entrants over the same event period. Competitions rank eligible activity totals, with solo and squad formats.

THE FORMAT

HOW COMPETITIONS
WORK.

01

Choose the activity and entry format

A Competition measures one activity over a shared period: Walking in steps, Running and Cycling in kilometres, or Swimming in metres. It ranks the cumulative eligible total. You do not have to reach a daily streak target to remain in the Competition.

Enter on your own or in a squad where that format is available. A solo result uses your own activity. A squad result adds together the eligible totals of its members. Check the actual event listing for its duration, required entrants, entry amount, league and advertised prize schedule before joining.

02

Join while the event is filling

Public Competitions can be discovered in the app. Private Competitions use restricted access and invitations. Squad admission can be open or invite-only, depending on the captain’s setup. Joining an event commits the entry shown in that event.

The required field must fill before the Competition locks. Field sizes can differ between ordinary events and internal testing, so use the number displayed in your event. While it is still filling, you can leave and receive your entry back in the ASTA wallet. Normal withdrawal closes once the event locks.

03

Wait for the scheduled start

After the field fills and the event locks, the current start rule schedules the Competition for the next midnight in South African Standard Time, Africa/Johannesburg. The event then runs for its stated number of whole days. Read the displayed start and end times rather than assuming that joining starts the clock.

Activity before the start does not contribute to the event. Use the waiting period to check your activity connection, the required permissions and the way your chosen activity is recorded.

04

Record activity and check the standings

Walking uses eligible step evidence. Running, Cycling and Swimming require saved workouts of the right type with distance and timing information. Only qualifying activity within the event period contributes. Manually entered Health records are excluded, and duplicate or overlapping submissions are handled so that the same activity is not simply counted twice.

The leaderboard orders eligible totals from highest to lowest. A workout visible on your watch or phone may still be waiting to reach ASTA. Check the app’s sync feedback, particularly near the end of the event. Extra distance on one day can contribute to your overall total; a Competition is not a daily pass-or-fail challenge.

05

Let the event finish and records settle

At the end of the activity window, exercise time is over. The current rules allow seven minutes for eligible earlier records to arrive. Those minutes are an upload allowance, not extra time to add new exercise. Use the deadline displayed in the app for your event.

Equal solo totals currently favour the entrant who joined earlier. Squad ties use the earliest-joined member. A relevant report or activity anomaly can place an affected prize under review. If you query a result, include the event reference, activity date, source and sync status.

06

Review prizes and league progress

Competition prizes are fixed in the advertised schedule before entry. They are not calculated by dividing contributions between everyone who meets a daily target. A squad prize is an amount for the squad and is split among its members. Read the actual schedule for the event rather than assuming that only first place receives an allocation.

Walking, Running, Cycling and Swimming have separate trophy totals and league progression. A Running result does not advance your Swimming league. Available levels and trophy treatment depend on the event and league shown in the app.

A result credit in the ASTA wallet is separate from an external bank transfer. During internal testing, balances have no cash value and cash deposits and withdrawals are disabled in that mode.

BEFORE YOU JOIN

CHECK THE
EVENT DETAILS.

The event listing sets out its activity, dates, entry conditions and any fixed advertised prizes. Solo and squad events use different entry rules.

Eligible activity must fall within the event period. An upload allowance gives recorded activity time to sync; it does not extend the time available to exercise.
