SOCIAL GAMES

ORGANISE IT.
PLAY IT.
SCORE IT.

Set up a game, choose a place and time, and bring the players together. ASTA gives Social games their own participant list, teams and sport-specific scoring controls.

THE FORMAT

HOW SOCIAL GAMES
WORK.

01

Create a game or join one

A host sets the name, sport, description, meeting place, start time, player count and visibility. An optional end time can also be set. Public games can be discovered in the app; private games use restricted access and invitations. Social-game participation is free in the current model.

Choose from Tennis, Squash, Padel, Rugby union, Touch rugby, Football, Basketball, Netball, Volleyball, Hiking and Custom game. A Custom game lets you name the activity and use simple one-point scoring. It is not a tool for programming a new set of sport rules.

02

Agree where and when to meet

Check the venue, date, time, description and available places before joining. A meeting place can be a sports facility, park, café or street address. Nearby discovery uses distance to that meeting point after location permission; it does not reveal other players’ live locations.

The game listing organises the participants. It does not itself reserve a court or sports facility. Any venue arrangements need to be made separately by the people organising the game.

03

Fill the places and choose teams

Before the host starts, all places need to be filled. For scored sports, every participant chooses one of the two teams, with at least one person on each team. Hiking does not use that competitive team requirement.

Teams are fixed after play starts. Check the players and teams first. The host controls starting, pausing, resuming and finishing the game; joining as a player does not make you the host.

04

Record what happens during play

Joined participants enter the score using controls for the selected sport. Basketball offers one-, two- and three-point scores. Tennis and Padel use points, games, sets, deuce, advantage and tiebreaks. Squash and Volleyball use set scoring with win-by-two handling. Supported set sports offer best-of-one, three or five formats.

Rugby union provides the relevant scoring actions, including tries and conversions. Football and Netball use goals. Touch rugby and Custom game use basic point controls. Hiking records a timed activity without a competitive score.

Participants can undo or remove score entries when correcting a mistake. This is a shared manual scoreboard. It does not referee physical play, decide whether a foul occurred or automatically verify a point through Apple Health.

05

Finish the game and keep the result

A game can finish when the host ends it, when its scheduled end is reached or when a supported winning condition is met. A timed activity without a competitive score should not be treated as a drawn match.

Finished games appear in participation and profile history. Share a result in ASTA and add a photo if you choose. If a score is disputed or recorded incorrectly, provide the game reference and explain the specific entry or action that needs attention.

06

Keep games separate from activity events

Playing a Social game does not automatically enter you into a Competition or Pool. A recorded game score is also not an activity total. For example, basketball points do not become walking steps, and winning a tennis match does not produce a Running Competition result.

Watch companions focus on scoring joined Social games through a paired phone. Availability depends on the watch, phone and current app access. A watch writing workout data to Apple Health and a watch entering a game score are separate functions.
